iPads to Green Screens

While I have no talent for painting a picture with words or enticing a reader to a flight of unbridled fancy, I can say with some confidence, I know what sells. In a word? Technology. To be sure, above and beyond sex or value saved, technology, especially in the form of gadgetry — and that is key — makes for the most compelling copy online or in print.

Do not make the mistake of dismissing the importance of gadgetry. The promise of the latest and greatest gadget is more than the promise of mere consumerism, it is the promise of problems solved, work streamlined, and a life fulfilled. Technology is the modern Western panacea — whether you are inclined towards medicine, the media, or even construction. Gadgets make this world, for lack of a more unique phrase, turn.

There are two recent gadgets that have promised much and delivered in their respective ways. The first is the Apple iPad. Yes, an unfortunate name, but a radical platform to say the least. While hailed as nifty and niche, the iPad will prove to be the springboard to a completely new way of interacting with information — and technology. The future of personal computing, in my humble opinion, will be a tablet, from which you choose your app and complete your task. That being said, the device still has some significant ground to cover.

The second gadget of interest is the green screen technology from Yoostar. This radical platform enjoyed a phenomenal start and has managed to earn its fair share of praise and adulation. It promises to be a “Guitar Hero for movies.” It’s proprietary software aligns each scene and provides the dialogue, so in some regards it is like a karaoke experience, only you play off some of the most important actors in film history.

Yoostar is a precursor of even bigger and brighter possibilities. With the future of a viable virtual reality experience five to ten years ahead of us, this kind of platform is merely the beginning. Perhaps we will be able to access a virtual film environment via our tablets, playing the lead in much the same fashion first-person games are played now. To be sure, the fusion of gaming and entertainment is become more and more radical.

The new gadgets of today are sure to be the ubiquitous appliances of tomorrow. Gather ye Yoostar kits and iPads while ye may.
